This is an annual national sponsored event, organised locally by County Historic Churches Trusts. Wiltshire Ride + Stride (or its predecessor the Great Cycle Ride) has been going since 1984 and has raised over £1.5 million for the county’s churches. 50% of the money raised goes to the participant’s chosen church and the other half to the County Historic Churches Trust.
It takes place on the second Saturday in September between 10.00 a.m. and 6.00p.m.
Ride & Stride: 12th September 2020
Participants may be cyclists, walkers, horse-riders or drivers of mobility scooters. They can be of any age, but under-13s must be accompanied by an adult.
All denominations are welcome.
Visit as many churches as you like, planning your own route.
Seek sponsorship from friends, relations and colleagues, so much per church visited or a lump sum.
The annual Wiltshire-wide Ride & Stride (R&S) event this year will take place on Saturday 12th September.
In compliance with government guidance on exercise, access to churches and risk assessments, the event will be quite different this year:
- Riders may take part as individuals or in small groups of up to six participants from different households preserving social distancing
- Striders may walk individually or in small groups of up to six participants from different households
Churches are unlikely to be open or to provide a welcome and facilities. Sponsor forms will have to be self-certified. That said, participation in this purposeful outdoor event should be good fun.
Please participate in the R&S event by riding, striding or whatever gets you around a churchyard, a church or two, or more. Please sponsor a participant.
Please consider ways and means of enjoying a safe day visiting Wiltshire churches/churchyards/entrances as individuals, or in small groups of family and friends and other novel ideas to make this an enjoyable fundraising day to remember
