Presentation by Dr Emma Wells in Salisbury

I am delighted to announce that we are holding an exciting event on Saturday 20th July when Dr Emma Wells will be talking in Salisbury’s Medieval Hall about her book, Heaven On Earth on ‘the lives and legacies of the World’s Greatest Cathedrals’ and in particular about the building of Salisbury Cathedral following ‘the escape from Old Sarum’.

The Times reviewed this ‘glorious history of sixteen of the world’s greatest cathedrals, interwoven with the extraordinary stories of the people who built them’ and heralded Emma’s book as ‘an impeccable guide to the golden age of ecclesiastical architecture’.

Emma is a distinguished historian, author and broadcaster – an ecclesiastical and architectural historian specialising in the late medieval/early modern English parish church and cathedral.

The event will start at 2.30pm; Emma will be signing copies of her book in the Medieval Hall where we will finish with tea & coffee in good time for those who would like to attend evensong in the Cathedral.

We are organising this meeting in partnership with the Friends of Salisbury Cathedral and the demand for places is likely to be strong, so please do email Jeremy Groom at jeremygroom@outlook.com if you would like to come. We will be collecting £20 per head on the door on the day.

The Medieval Hall is in the Close off the West Walk, between Edward Heath’s house Arundells & the Salisbury Museum. The hall itself is a remarkable building dating back to the 13th century and once formed part of the home of The Dean.
