Friends Collingbourne Area Tour

TOUR OF CHURCHES IN THE COLLINGBOURNE AREA – SATURDAY 14 APRIL 2018 TO BE LED BY BRIAN WOODRUFFE

10.30 St James, Ludgershall.  Postcode SP11 9QF.    Norman, Early English, Perpendicular with 17C tower.  Important monument (one of the most beautiful and least known in Wiltshire – Shell Guide) to Sir Richard and Lady Brydges in Renaissance style.  Coffee will be available in the adjacent Church Hall from 10.00.  Please park in the main car park (free) which is approx. 150 metres from the church and hall.

11.30. St Mary, Collingbourne Kingston. Postcode SN8 3SE .  Arcades of c 1200.  Perpendicular with Victorian chancel arch.  Monuments to the Pile family.  Memorial window by John Hayward.
Parking available on north side of church near the village notice board and on the road leading east towards the village hall.

12.30. Lunch at The Swan, Wilton

2.00 St Nicholas, East Grafton. Postcode SN8 3DB.  Early Victorian, Romanesque in style. Benefactor was the Marquis of Ailesbury and architect Benjamin Ferrey.  Richly decorated apse by Thomas Willement who also decorated Wilton.  Parking along side of approach road.

3.00 St Michael, Tidcombe.  Postcode SN8 3SL.  Flint and rubble.  Mostly Decorated.  Elizabethan Tower.  1675 Porch.  Jacobean pulpit.  Monument to Thomas Rendell.  Beautiful setting close to Manor House.
