Tour of Churches Around Bradford on Avon

SATURDAY 7th JULY 2018, LED BY JOHN OSBORNE

Although a few Friends visited Bradford a couple of years ago, this tour, whilst including one of the previously visited churches, will cover Holy Trinity which was then closed as well as some delightful rural churches in the area.

Programme

10.15am.  Meet at Great Chalfield Manor for coffee  by kind permission of Robert and Pats Floyd. Plenty of parking available at the Manor and church.

10.30am.  All Saints, Great Chalfield. Together with the medieval Manor form ‘one of the most beautiful groups to be found anywhere.’ (Betjeman)

11.30am.  Holy Trinity, Bradford-on-Avon, the main church of the town, which has undergone significant ‘reordering’

12.15pm  St Laurence, Bradford-on-Avon, the remarkable tiny Saxon church nearby

LUNCH BREAK – Lunch will be taken independently in Bradford-on-Avon. There are numerous cafes, pubs and restaurants in the centre of the town and, on Saturday 7 July,  a street market.

St Thomas More, the Roman Catholic Church in the former Council Chamber of the one-time Town Hall is worth an independent visit.

2.30pm  St Mary, Wingfield, a charming village church with pretty 18th c. features

3.15pm  St Mary the Virgin, Westwood, the fine parish church next to Westwood Manor, a National Trust property

Cost of tour £15 per head, payable on the day.
