St James, Draycot Cerne

St James, Draycot Cerne

The church is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It is sited in
parkland and has an Early English chancel lower than the floor level
of the nave. Inside are Gothick box pews, a fine 15th century double brass
and various monuments to the Longs and Tylneys.

St Margaret of Antioch, Leigh Delamere

St Margaret of Antioch, Leigh Delamere

This church is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It was built in
1847 by James Thomson for Joseph Neeld MP. Situated near the M4, it has a
dramatic interior with reredos and strident glass by Thomas Wilmhurst.

St Andrew, Castle Combe

St Andrew, Castle Combe

This large Grade 1 church is essentially Perpendicular, albeit rebuilt in
1850-1. The 15th century tower has a magnificent fan- vaulted ceiling.
The fine medieval chancel arch has six carved figures in shallow niches
including St Andrew and St James. There is a painted 13th century effigy
of Sir Walter de Dunstanville.

St Nicholas, Biddestone

St Nicholas, Biddestone

This Grade 1 church has a Norman south doorway and font. The bell turret
is 13th century. The interior is pleasing with its Georgian box pews.
The sanctuary is Victorian.

St Christopher, Ditteridge

St Christopher, Ditteridge

This small and simple Grade 1 church has a Norman south doorway and an
Early English chancel and bellcote. The font is also Norman. It remains a
church of great atmosphere in spite of its restoration by Godwin in 1860.
