1/ ST PETER, CLYFFE PYPARD1_Clyffe Pypard

This Grade 1 church is mainly Perpendicular. It was heavily restored by
Butterfield in the 1870s. Its chief treasure is the remarkable statue to the
carpenter Thomas Spackman by John Devall Jun in 1786. It also has a good
brass of the 14th century and a Jacobean pulpit of 1629. Sir Nikolaus
Pevsner is buried in the churchyard.

2/ ST SWITHIN, COMPTON BASSETT2_Compton Bassett

This Grade 1 church has a late 12th century interior but is externally
Perpendicular. The chancel is by Henry Woodyer who also provided gates for
the elaborate medieval stone screen with figures of the Apostles on pilasters.

3/ ST MARY, CALNE3_Calne St Mary

The Grade 1 church has a mainly Perpendicular exterior. The tower
collapsed in 1638 and was rebuilt. There is a Norman doorway and nave arcades
and an ornate reredos by Pearson who restored the church.

4/ ST CYRIAC, LACOCK4_Lacock

This Grade 1 church is predominantly 15th century Perpendicular although the
transepts are earlier. The central tower has a recessed spire. The very ornate
north east Lady Chapel of c1430 with a pendant vault is dominated by the
1566 monument to Sir William Sharington. There are a number of brasses.

5/ ST BARTHOLOMEW, CORSHAM5_Corsham Methuen

The Grade 1 church is set in a large churchyard adjacent to open parkland
and Corsham Court. It is large with tower and recessed spire. It has work
inside of the 12th and 15th centuries. The church was heavily restored by
Street. There are monuments and stained glass by Kempe and Comper.

6/ ST THOMAS à BECKET, BOX6_Box

The core of the Grade 1 church is 14th century with later additions. There is a
classical porch, an attractive Victorian chancel with elaborate reredos,
monuments and stained glass by Gibbs and Powell.

7/ ST CHRISTOPHER, DITTERIDGE7_Ditteridge

This small and simple Grade 1 church has a Norman south doorway and an
Early English chancel and bellcote. The font is also Norman. It remains a
church of great atmosphere in spite of its restoration by Godwin in 1860.

8/ ST NICHOLAS, BIDDESTONE8_Biddestone

This Grade 1 church has a Norman south doorway and font. The bell turret
is 13th century. The interior is pleasing with its Georgian box pews.
The sanctuary is Victorian.

9/ ST ANDREW, CASTLE COMBE9_Castle Combe

This large Grade 1 church is essentially Perpendicular, albeit rebuilt in
1850-1. The 15th century tower has a magnificent fan- vaulted ceiling.
The fine medieval chancel arch has six carved figures in shallow niches
including St Andrew and St James. There is a painted 13th century effigy
of Sir Walter de Dunstanville.

10/ ST MARGARET of ANTIOCH, LEIGH DELAMERE10_Leigh Delamere

This church is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It was built in
1847 by James Thomson for Joseph Neeld MP. Situated near the M4, it has a
dramatic interior with reredos and strident glass by Thomas Wilmhurst.
